I'm looking for information on a cousin of grandfather who died aged 58 in Milwaukee on February 21st 1928. This information is from the family bible. He was at home on the family farm in Llanengan, Wales UK in 1891 but was not in the Uk in the 1901 census. Could someone tell me where to start?

www.ancestory.com

This is decent place to start as they are expanding to international records.

Tracing English and Welsh ancestors

If your English or Welsh ancestors were born in 1837 or later, it is fairly easy to trace your roots to and in the "old country" — thanks to the national civil registration. Of course, identifying your ancestor among many with the same name can be both the challenge and the fun.

Book Since July 1, 1837, it has been required that every birth, death, and marriage be registered with the central government. This means there is only one place you need to look for one of these records. However, there were no penalties for not registering prior to 1875, so compliance between 1837 and 1875 was not 100 percent. Events were registered at a local public records office, which retained a copy, so each record should be available in both the local and the central records office.

I've had a look at Ancestry.com in the past and have not found anything conclusive. I could really do with a copy of the death certificate to see if a family member registered and/or an obituary in a local Milwaukee newspaper. I've got good information on him in the UK before left for the US.

What kind of information are you looking for?
Have you checked the Ellis Island records for his entry into the US? How about the 1900, 1910 and 1920 US census records?

Yes I have tried the immigration lists and the censuses and I can't get a definitive match. That's why I was wondering if there was an obituary as I have a date of death of February 21 1928 and Milwaukee as a location.

Welcome to Detective Forums!

This is a frequently asked subject. Use the search tool located at the bottom in my signature's box to find prior post by members.

I recall both Gary and Lawmanconfidential posting links to SS death indexes. You may want to look at Lawman's site for free basic searches or Investigator97 site which has considerable links.
