Can anyone tell me how many people get murdered every year?

As per DOJ On June 30, 2008 – 2,310,984 prisoners were held in federal or state prisons or in local jails.

In 2008, law enforcement agencies submitted supplemental homicide data to the FBI for 14,180 murders. Keep in mind this reflects reported murders. You may want to explore this site for other info.

Think Louisiana may run a close second to California. The Beltway Sniper was originally from Louisiana? How many serial killers from this state does that make?
