I thought it would be funny as well as helpful to share a recent story of how I found someone in a time of need.
Last week I was on my front porch smoking a cigar and enjoying one of my favorite mixed drinks after a stressful day when I noticed some strange activity across the street at a vacant rental property. A neighborhood teen known for trouble appeared to be painting the front porch of the rental house pink. This seemed a little strange, but it's not my house and I had no way of knowing if he was doing this for the owner or what. After about an hour I noticed some other neighborhood teens had joined in on the fun and the home was looking like a paintball target. Now I knew the owner had no clue about the paint job. I knew who all the kids were and where they lived, but I had no idea who the owner of the rental property was or where he lived. I took a few snap shots with my digital camera of the teens handywork and decided to find the owner. So, I went to my countys Geographic Information System website and looked up the property address. This gave me the property owner's name. With a name I figured I would try to do a free search from zabasearch on the name to see if I got a local hit. Sure enough there was his name, address and telephone. I subscribe to a private service as well that I pay for yearly. I compared the information to this search to verify. All the info. matched so I gave the guy a call. After a few curse words and a bit of venting he came to the property with the local Sheriff deputy. I provided the deputy with the digital photos and a list of names of the guilty teens. The deputy contacted the parents and they all had a long meeting. I noticed Friday the teens were back painting. This time they had to do it right and they painted the entire home while the parents watched like prison guards. So, it isn't as hard as you may think to find someone when needed. I hope this was amusing and helpful. |

How does one get the name of the property owner from the GIS system in LA County, CA? I was able to get the tax roll number and parcel info, a legal description as well, but i don't know where to go to find the owner's name.
