New E-Mail Hotline for Reporting Small Business Fraud and Abuse
GAO has an e-mail hotline for reporting potential fraud and abuse in
o the Historically Underutilized Business Zone program, or HUBZone;
o the Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business procurement program; and
o the 8(a) Business Development Program.
To report potential fraud or abuse in these programs, send an e-mail, with as much information as possible, to smallbizfraud@gao.gov.
GAO is investigating these programs after uncovering evidence in July 2008 that the HUBZone program is vulnerable to fraud and abuse. Specifically, GAO found that 10 companies it reviewed continued to participate in the HUBZone program even though they did not meet program requirements. In total, these companies were awarded more than $100 million in federal contracts in 2006 and 2007.
