Well another week down and all going well. Dog is doing great. Right now it's all about setting up realistic searches and watching the dogs body language. Figure I will work with him for another week or so just building up his alert. He has figured out if he scratches he gets his reward and there have been a few times he has tried to game me. This is why it is important to continue with the training. In a real search you have to assume the dog is giving you a good alert and he gets his reward. Right now if he starts to give me an indication and there is nothing there I tell him "no", and continue to serach until he actually does hit odor. This is one of the biggest reasons why training is so important. Not just in the beginning, but throughout the dogs working life. These dogs are smart, but you have to be smarter. |

This morning my heart goes out to Oakland PD and I agree with the Attorney General.
The incident involving the gunman "is bad because he's a state ward, he's a state parolee, they let him out," said California Attorney General Jerry Brown, a former Oakland mayor. "There are hundreds of shooters walking around the East Bay. Our parole system isn't working.'' |

There is currently a 3 judge panel that has already stated they are goung to let approx. 25,000 of these type of "Non violent" offenders out of prison within the next year !!!! The parole system is broken because the administrators fail to allow parole agents to violate the idiots. Parole Agents routinely recommend the parolee be returned to custody, only to have the Unit Supervisor order the parolee to be "COP" Continued On Parole. It is going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better !!! |

In memory of Gary's dog Duke who died last year.
Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that
pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of
our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of
food, water and sunshine and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and
vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and
strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and
times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small
thing: they each miss someone very special, someone who was left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one
suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are
intent; his eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly, he breaks from
the group, flying over the green grass, faster and faster. You have been
spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling
together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses
rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and
you look once more into those trusting eyes, so long gone from
your life, but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together...

Do you use K-9's in your practice?
Both Gary and Roadman are experienced dog handlers if you have any questions.
Thanks

Dogs are very helpful in almost every investigation. They prove to be our best friends. I would like to know how to train dogs? |

Gary,
Can a person other than the person who trained the dog, keep the dog from following a command from the owner, if that person also knows how to train dogs?
If you prefer not to answer online I understand, but I'm curious because I know a person who is criminal and he knows how to train police dogs because is ex brother-in-law is a trainer and he used to help him. |

it depends what sort of training you mean for a house dog on simply commands like sit stay commands like this most dogs will do some things as long you have a treat for it as for getting a dog to do your command instead the trainer that all depends on the training the dog has had in working dog gen i would say no to that |
