I am in th UK and have been trying to find out why my late biological father went to prison in the UK in the early 1960's. I know it was for 3 years and involved sexual offence/s, I also know what prison it was as I remember visiting there with my late mother. I have asked various family members who will not reveal what the offence was, only that it did not involve me at the time. I have tried the UK Freedom of information act, phoning the prison/police to no avail as the offence was so long ago they do not keep records apparently. I do have his death certificate. I would be grateful if anyone can advise me to where to look now?

It would be more helpful if you could tell us where in the UK your father was located when the crime took place. I have a phone number that may help you or send you in the right direction. Try contacting the Prisoners' Families Helpline (0808 808 2003). You may also want to use this forum's search tool at the top of the page. Someone else may have posted additional information that can help you. Let us know if you find what records you are looking for.
